Floods are a natural and inevitable part of life in Ireland. Numerous severe floods have occurred throughout the country in the last decade. Ireland and other parts of Europe will bear the brunt of increasingly severe flooding caused by climate change.

The impact of flooding in Europe has increased over the past years and it’s directly attributed to global warming.

According to Dr Murphy, flood management must adapt to the realities of our changing climate and associated flood risk over the coming decades. Incorporating the evidence of increasing flood risk into engineering design and general flood management would ensure we are better prepared.

As we know climate change is shifting the timing of floods in a year, but does climate change also control the magnitude of flood events? Studies have shown that there are consistent patterns of flood across Europe in line with predicted climate change impacts. The warmer atmosphere can store more water leading to flood changes in a warming world.

The infrastructure built in the past years is no longer adequate to cater for the magnitude of flooding now predicted and that’s why we are facing floods more often as drains are unable to handle the large volume of water. Here at Tank and Drain Services we always provide an exceptional service. If you have any drain emergency, contact us.
